MIDA Connects 25 Local Firms With TNB Companies For RE Opportunities

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) has connected 25 Malaysian manufacturing and services companies with TNB Power Generation Sdn Bhd (TNB GENCO) and TNB Renewables Sdn Bhd to explore renewable energy (RE) supply-chain opportunities.

In a statement today, MIDA said the business-matching sessions were held under its inaugural Renewable Energy Supply Chain Programme at International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2026 in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on Oct 8.

MIDA chief executive officer Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid said that Malaysia’s energy transition is not only about increasing RE capacity; it is also an opportunity to build stronger Malaysian companies, develop specialised capabilities and create greater economic value at home.

“At MIDA, we want to ensure that every quality investment we facilitate creates meaningful linkages with our domestic industry and contributes to the development of a more competitive RE ecosystem,” he said.

Meanwhile, TNB GENCO managing director Datuk Shahrir Abdul Latiff said the company is committed to enabling Malaysian companies to grow alongside its expanding RE portfolio.

“Our collaboration with MIDA provides an important platform to connect capable local manufacturers, vendors and service providers with tangible opportunities across our project pipeline, while strengthening domestic capabilities, generating sustainable economic value and positioning Malaysian solutions to serve both domestic and regional markets,” he said.

TNB Renewables managing director Elmie Fairul Mashuri said that the company ambition goes beyond adding renewable megawatts.

“As we grow our RE portfolio, we want each project to create lasting value for Malaysia by deepening local participation across the RE value chain.

“This means creating meaningful opportunities for Malaysian contractors, manufacturers, vendors and service providers to build capabilities, grow alongside our project pipeline and progressively participate in higher-value areas such as engineering, technology, construction, operations and specialised services,” he said.
