Perak Contributes RM12.29 Bln To Nation's Total Trade In 8M 2026

IPOH, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- Perak has contributed RM12.29 billion, or 0.5 per cent, to Malaysia’s total trade in the first eight months of this year (8M 2026), an increase of 7.6 per cent compared with 8M 2025.

Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) Strategic Planning Division senior director Raja Badrulnizam Raja Kamalzaman said that in 2025, the state contributed RM17.64 billion, or 0.6 per cent, to the country’s total trade.

In terms of export contribution, Perak ranked ninth among the states in 2025, recording RM6.96 billion, or 0.4 per cent of national exports.

From January to August this year, Perak contributed RM4.44 billion, or 0.3 per cent, to national exports, he added.

“Behind these figures lies production capacity, skills and enterprises that can be connected to global demand. For exports, these strengths need to work together as an ecosystem.

“This includes producers ensuring quality and supply, government agencies assisting with compliance and market access, financiers supporting cash flow and capacity expansion, logistics providers managing shipments, and experienced exporters creating opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to become suppliers,” he said.

He said this in his speech at the opening ceremony of Perak Export Day 2026, officiated by Perak State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) Sectoral 1 deputy director, L. Kumaresan, here today.

Meanwhile, Raja Badrulnizam said 28 companies from Perak participated in the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS 2026) in September, including eight entrepreneurs from the Perak State Entrepreneurs Secretariat who took part in the Perak Pavilion.

During the event, 29 companies from the state also took part in MATRADE’s International Sourcing Programme (INSP), held in conjunction with MIHAS 2026.

“I am pleased to report that Perak companies recorded potential export sales of RM12.57 million during the exhibition and potential sales of RM103.36 million through the INSP.

“This shows there is a high demand for Perak’s products in the international market, and that the brief meetings with buyers at exhibitions and business matching sessions at MIHAS can mark the beginning of long-term trade relationships, provided they are followed up diligently,” he said.

At the same time, Raja Badrulnizam said export ecosystem assistance should be tailored to the needs of businesses at different stages of development, as some need to improve packaging and labelling, expand capacity and obtain certifications, while others require distributors or are ready to explore new markets.

Here, he highlighted that MATRADE provides access to information and opportunities, while partner agencies complement its efforts by supporting businesses and fulfilling orders.

“Perak Export Day brings this ecosystem together. The export clinic panellists today will discuss standards, digital trade, logistics, financing and supply chain opportunities, while successful exporters from Perak will share their experiences,” he added.
