Lazada Malaysia Records 20 Pct Rise In Brands On Platform

KUALA LUMPUR Oct 20 (Bernama) -- Lazada Malaysia recorded a nearly 20 per cent year-on-year increase in the number of brands on its platform to 21,756 in September 2026, from 18,147 last year.

Chief executive officer Kaya Qin said the increase represented an additional 3,609 recorded brand names, giving shoppers more brands to compare on its platform.

"Meanwhile, average order value rose 22.4 per cent during the same period, while average spending per shopper increased seven per cent," she said at the media roundtable of Lazada and Cube Asia '2026 eCommerce Savvy Shopper Report' here today.

The new research was commissioned by Lazada and conducted by Cube Asia.

Lazada Malaysia said in a statement that 20 per cent of online shoppers in Malaysia qualify as savvy, yet they account for 25 per cent of eCommerce spending.

“They spend 36 per cent more each month than general shoppers, exceeding the 31 per cent regional spending difference and representing an estimated US$900 million annual marketplace spending gap.

“While Malaysia's savvy shopper share is below the 24 per cent regional average, the research points to an opportunity to strengthen shopping habits, particularly in verification,” it said.

Lazada Malaysia said this presents an opportunity for platforms, brands and sellers to make product and seller information easier to check.

“Already, 62 per cent of Malaysian respondents check seller details before buying.

“Clear product descriptions, verified seller information and authenticity assurances can help more consumers shop with confidence,” it said.

Lazada Malaysia said the findings reinforce four priorities: making trusted sellers easier to identify, value easier to assess, protection more accessible and digital tools more useful before and after a purchase.

Qin said the company’s aim is to help Malaysians spend well, rather than spend more.

“For Lazada, this means making trusted sellers easier to identify, offers easier to compare and protection more accessible.

“It is also how brands and sellers can earn consumer confidence, build credibility and encourage repeat business,” she said.

Also presenting the findings was Cube Asia co-founder Simon Torring.
