Genon Wins Indonesia Contracts After AI System Passes Validation

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- Genon, a South Korean generative artificial intelligence (AI) solutions startup, announced that its Indonesian AI manufacturing automation business passed mass-production validation and has won follow-on contracts, accelerating its overseas expansion.

The Vision AI system, developed last year, uses high-resolution industrial cameras and dedicated lighting to identify defective outsoles. It achieved defect detection rates of 99.7 per cent and 99.2 per cent on two shoe styles, clearing Nike Footwear’s final validation.

“In AI manufacturing automation, competitiveness depends not only on technical accuracy but on understanding real production environments and on-site deployment capability.

“We will deepen collaboration with local customers and advance our execution capabilities, from development through commercialisation, to build a sustainable foundation for overseas growth,” said Genon chief executive officer, Seok Tae Ko in a statement.

Genon will begin developing the mass-production model before the end of the year, with deployment starting in 2027 and phased expansion to more products and production lines.

It has also won a Vision AI project this year to detect tiny defects in the stitched and bonded parts of shoe uppers, with inspection to be extended later to midsoles and finished products.

Under a separate Physical AI contract, Genon will pair collaborative robots with vision cameras to automate repetitive outsole-pressing tasks. The robots will learn skilled movements from operators’ remote demonstrations, with the aim of running 24 hours a day.

Its Indonesian subsidiary, PT Genon Global Indonesia, set up this year and led by president and managing director Tae Ryong Kim, is targeting profitability in its first year.

Genon is also exploring the shipbuilding and offshore sectors. These include an AI solution it is developing for global offshore engineering firm IKM Group, which analyses vessel documents and automatically generates work-plan reports.
