Tabung Haji Stable, Growing Stronger - MoF

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- Lembaga Tabung Haji’s (TH) current position is stable and increasingly stronger, following an increase in assets that exceed liabilities, depositors’ savings, and the distribution rate, said the Ministry of Finance (MOF).

Emphasising the government’s full commitment to TH, the ministry said that the total assets of RM98.58 billion exceeded liabilities of RM95.63 billion as of Dec 31, 2025, while depositors’ savings rose from RM75.4 billion in 2018 to RM93.4 billion in 2025.

“The distribution rate increased from 1.25 per cent in 2018 to 3.50 per cent in 2025, totalling RM3.22 billion,” it said.

In a statement today, MOF reiterated that TH depositors’ savings are safe as the government guarantees the entire savings of each depositor under Section 24 of Act 535.

“The people’s haj savings are safe. The institutions that hold these haj aspirations will always be protected, for today’s generation and future generations,” the ministry explained.

Meanwhile, MOF stressed that TH’s losses stemming from financial and investment mismanagement before 2018 have not disappeared.

It said the government bore the bailout costs through public funds and taxpayers.

“(A total of) 9.7 million depositors also bore the burden, receiving a distribution rate as low as 1.25 per cent in 2018 and around three per cent during the recovery year,” it said.

MOF said that the government will not intervene and will not protect anyone; the decision to prosecute rests entirely with the prosecutors.

“For the same reason, the government is committed to ensuring this crisis does not recur.

“In line with the RCI’s recommendations, the government will proceed with amendments to the Tabung Haji Act 1955 (Act 535), among others to introduce Securities Commission oversight of Tabung Haji’s investment activities,” it added.

Earlier, when winding up at today’s special parliamentary sitting, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said TH’s losses amounted to nearly RM13 billion, comprising RM10.2 billion of losses borne by the government through Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd (UJSB) in 2018, and RM2.6 billion in impairments borne by TH itself.
