Malaysia's Startup Ecosystem Valued At Over RM200 Bln – Akmal Nasrullah
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's startup ecosystem continues to demonstrate strong growth, reflecting the increasing value of homegrown companies and strengthening the country's ambition to become a leading global startup hub by 2030.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of KL20@Kuala Lumpur 2026 at The Campus yesterday, Minister of Economy Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the continued development of Malaysia’s startup ecosystem and the role of KL20 were key to supporting its growth.
“With Malaysia’s startup ecosystem valued at more than RM200 billion, we are building strong momentum towards our RM400 billion ambition in 2030.
“More importantly, our priority is to translate this growth into globally competitive Malaysian companies, skilled jobs and greater economic value created and retained within the country,” he said in a statement here today.
The KL20 initiative has also recorded 5,016 registered startups, including 1,609 new active startups since April 2024, alongside RM51.17 billion in total investment.
Moving forward, the Government will focus on accelerating technology commercialisation, strengthening access to financing and expanding international market opportunities for Malaysian startups.
These priorities align with the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan, which emphasises productivity, innovation and domestic value creation.
“With the aspiration of positioning Kuala Lumpur among the world's Top 20 startup ecosystems in 2030, KL20 will continue to drive the development of high-growth Malaysian enterprises capable of competing internationally and contributing to sustainable economic growth,” he added.
